IRP established a protected work zone around an interior attic access before remediation activity, helping separate the work area from the occupied portion of the home.

Containment and protection before disturbance.

The photographs show the preparation stage of a Smithfield mold-remediation project. Plastic sheeting was installed to isolate the work zone, edges were sealed, and the adjacent flooring and stair landing were protected.

The technician entered the controlled attic-access area using protective coveralls, gloves, eye protection, and a respirator. After the old attic subfloor, insulation, and affected ceiling materials were removed, visible microbial growth was documented on the exposed Sheetrock, OSB roof sheathing, and adjacent wood framing. After remediation, the ceiling support system was rebuilt and new ceiling board was installed and finished. The exact property address remains private.

Installed a supported plastic barrier with taped and sealed perimeter edges.

Control access

Separated the attic work area from the surrounding occupied space.

Use proper PPE

Entered the controlled area wearing protective coveralls, gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection.

Expose hidden surfaces

Removed the old attic subfloor and insulation to access and document concealed Sheetrock surfaces.

Soda blast

Used controlled soda blasting to remove mold contamination from the attic roof sheathing.

Reconstruct

Installed new ceiling framing and ceiling board before beginning the drywall-finishing process.
